BEMS retrofit delivers multiple benefits

Our client base is varied ranging from end-user retail clients with over 500 stores to large campus universities. The one thing they all have in common is technology.

This technology can vary from new to old, simple to complex and capable or not capable to achieve what our clients want to achieve. Healthy, sustainable environments.

The systems:

When we initially survey for our clients we are looking to understand not only what equipment they have and what it is currently doing, but what it is capable of achieving and how this can work to achieve our customer’s targets.

The problem:

Our clients often don’t know where to start with potentially aged estates and with tight budgets they want to get the most for the money available.

This often means that efficiency projects get pushed out due to long ROI calculations due to new equipment costs. Not only does this cause a roadblock to improved efficiency and environment, but there are also no savings being delivered to help fund the next energy efficiency project and keep the momentum going.

We have also identified a number of occasions where contractors have come in as part of an energy project and replaced existing equipment that was more than capable of delivering the same level of savings through some minor tweaks and changes. Providing much quicker ROI figures due to the lower investment requirement.

Problems this can cause:

  • Unmonitored systems can easily get out of hand, increasing operating costs and causing comfort issues.
  • Workarounds get implemented bypassing energy-efficient systems due to minor faults or issues causing significantly more cost than resolving the underlying issue
  • Increased reactive call-outs due to comfort issues
  • Warning signs aren’t identified leading to much larger issues and costs for the customer

Our Solution:

We work with a large variety of different technologies and our R&D is based around our customer’s actual estates which aren’t always brand new, uniform systems.

Our projects have included:

  • Establishing remote connectivity to multisite portfolios to provide enhanced visibility, central control and increased energy efficiency
  • Integration between existing AC and gas heating systems
  • Lighting management through LUX, PIR and operating hours
  • Accessing energy consumption data from supplier records to reduce and direct submetering requirements
  • Air quality sensor retrofit onto existing BeMS
  • Meeting room ventilation management through CO2 monitoring
  • Central monitoring to support existing HVAC contractors in identifying issues quickly and reducing both travel and onsite engineering time

Benefits of a BEMS retrofit:

  • Getting the most out of existing technology and infrastructure reduces ROI timeframes
  • Low-cost initial projects can help unlock funding for further energy efficiency projects
  • Quicker implementation
  • Our customers can get the most out of what they have
  • A step closer to Net Zero
